The Justice Department has taken “preliminary steps” to investigate whether managers at Uber violated U.S. laws against bribing foreign officials.
The agency is reviewing allegations that Uber may have violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The FCPA bans U.S. companies from bribing foreign officials to win business. An Uber spokesperson confirmed that the company is cooperating with the Justice Department on the preliminary investigation.
Depending on what the preliminary probe finds, the Justice Department could launch a full-fledged investigation into Uber
