Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions was asked to respond to a report that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had threatened to subpoena “emails, phone records and other documents from lawmakers and staff on a Republican-led House committee” earlier this year.
According to the story by Fox News’ Catherine Herridge published earlier on Tuesday, Rosenstein’s threat came as members of the House Intelligence Committee were engaged in a showdown with the deputy attorney general for documents from the Justice Department.
Sessions said he was not in the room when the threat allegedly happened, and could not “speak to what occurred.” However, he did vouch for Rosenstein as a 28-year DoJ veteran.
“I’m confident that Deputy Rosenstein, 28 years in the Department of Justice, did not improperly threaten anyone on that occasion,” Sessions said.
