On Thursday, the campaign for Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Doug Jones released a minute-long radio ad attacking his opponent Republican nominee Roy Moore for his association with former Trump chief strategist and Breitbart News executive chairman Steve Bannon.
In an interview before the kickoff of last Saturday’s Auburn-Alabama football game in Auburn, AL, Barkley unleashed a scathing attack on Moore and Bannon and clips of that interview were used in the ad.
After the Barkley audio is played, the radio spot goes on to tie Moore to the KKK and neo-Nazi groups.
Transcript as follows:
MODERATOR: On December 12, Alabama decides Roy Moore or Doug Jones. Listen to Alabama native Charles Barkley’s answer.
(BEGIN AUDIO)
BARKLEY: I don’t understand why that’s even a question. I mean, Roy Moore is running with Steve Bannon, who is a white separatist.
(BREAK)
BARKLEY: I’m not even going to get into the women stuff.
(BREAK)
BARKLEY: Roy Moore, to me, when he brought in Steve Bannon, he should have been disqualified.
(BREAK)
BARKLEY: It has nothing to do with being Democrat, Republican, liberal or conservative. The guy has a guy running with him who is a white separatist. That is immoral and wrong.
(END AUDIO)
MODERATOR: Roy Moore, a disturbing history of ties to hate groups. Moore’s refusal to enforce federal law earned the backing of KKK groups. And his organization took $1,000 from a neo-Nazi group.
So on December 12, listen to Charles Barkley about Roy Moore. Reject hate and division and vote for Doug Jones for U.S. Senate. Election Day is December 12.
JONES: I’m Doug Jones and I approved this message.
MODERATOR: Paid for by Doug Jones for Senate.
