Watch: Nine-Year-Old With Cerebral Palsy Tries to Stand for National Anthem

Amid talk of professional athletes refusing to stand for the pre-game national anthem, a Michigan mother shared video of her nine-year-old son with cerebral palsy trying to stand for the national anthem Monday.

Rebecca Wilson said her son Logan cannot walk without the help of medical equipment, but he loves his sports and the national anthem, reports Fox 4.

“He always takes off his hat,” she said. “But until yesterday I never really saw him try to stand. He just knew that is what we do to show respect to our country and everyone who fights so hard for us.  He is truly just an amazing kid just doing what he loves.”

Logan, a big fan of the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers, was diagnosed with spastic quad cerebral palsy and doctors told his mother he would have a poor quality of life.

Instead, Logan plays in a special needs baseball league and goes to Tigers games.

Wilson said her son, despite having very little vocabulary, understands everything and loves everything and everyone.

In the video Rebecca Wilson uploaded to her Facebook account, Logan can be seen trying to stand, even putting his hand to his heart. He also clapped, tried to sing along and cheered when he heard other cheers on the television.

Wilson wrote on her post, “Even my 9 year old with CP (who can’t walk) knows you’re supposed to stand up during the national anthem… He loves it!”

She said of her dig at athletes such as Colin Kaepernick, “In my opinion, I believe they are not only disrespecting their own country, a country that affords them the right to do what they did, but also disrespecting all the people who fight for this country.  I do not disagree with their reasons for doing what they did, I disagree with the actions they took.”
