Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson was asked about his opponent Donald Trump’s recent criticisms of President George W. Bush and said that he “seriously” doubts Trump meant that Bush is to blame for the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Carson said, “I seriously doubt that he’s saying that — that George W. Bush is to blame for it.”
Carson added that he would not have invaded Afghanistan after 9/11 but instead he would have declared energy independence, which he believes would have forced Afghanistan to turned over Osama Bin Laden.
“I think they would have been extremely concerned if we had declared and we were serious about it that we were going to become petroleum independent because it would have had a major impact on their finances,” he explained. “And I think that probably would have trumped any loyalty that they had to people like Osama bin Laden.”
