During Friday’s “Olbermann” on ESPN2, host Keith Olbermann reacted to ESPN’s Outside the Line’s report on boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s five convictions of domestic violence, dating back to 2001. Olbermann coupled Mayweather Jr.’s upcoming fight on May 2 with the 2015 NFL Draft that begins on April 30 which is expected to see ex-Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, who has been investigated for sexual assault, drafted as early as first overall.
Olbermann claimed that these two athletes, who are going to see a lot of airtime this upcoming week, do not deserve his money or viewership due to their domestic violence histories and he urged others to do so as well.
“I will not give Floyd Mayweather a dime. That line I spoke of earlier, he is so far beyond it we can no longer see him. We shouldn’t have to. He should have been banned for life by his sport 2 or 5 or 10 years ago. I will not promote, watch nor report on Mayweather’s fight. I will boycott it and I urge you too, as well. I have grave doubts about Jameis Winston. Unless I have grave doubts about promoting, watching or reporting the NFL Draft, I’m not sure where he is relative to the line, but since the NFL doesn’t care, I can’t run the risk. I will boycott the draft, too.”
