Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly is set to host her own one-hour primetime special on the larger Fox Broadcasting channel during May sweeps.
While few details are known about the special, Variety reports that the Kelly File host will interview “celebrities from the worlds of politics, entertainment and other areas of human interest,” and she will also discuss her prominent role in covering the 2016 presidential election.
Veteran television producer Bill Geddie will executive produce the special under his May Avenue Productions banner. Geddie is known for his decade-plus work alongside Barbara Walters on the ABC daytime talker The View, and he has produced several of Walters’s most well-known specials, including her annual 10 Most Fascinating People show.
Fox News chairman Roger Ailes and the rest of the network’s top brass have been planning a series of specials for Kelly since at least June, according to Variety.
Kelly became part of the election story during the first Republican debate on Fox News, when she used the first question of the debate to confront Donald Trump about comments he had previously made about women. The moment led to a larger feud between Trump and Kelly, and the GOP frontrunner sat out a second debate on Fox News before returning for a third debate on the network earlier this month. The network announced this week that it will host another Republican debate in Salt Lake City on March 21.
Kelly has increased her profile both in the political media landscape and in Hollywood over the past few months. In February, the anchor dined with celebrities, including Judd Apatow and Larry David at the Vanity Fair dinner ahead of this year’s Academy Awards and also attended the magazine’s glitzy post-ceremony bash.
Last week, Kelly was chosen as one of five Lifetime Impact honorees at next month’s Variety Power of Women: New York event. Kelly will be honored for her philanthropic efforts along with actresses Lupita Nyong’o and Julianne Moore, ballet dancer Misty Copeland, and fashion designer Vera Wang at the April 8 luncheon in Manhattan.
