Mexico’s National Security Commissioner called out the claims that famed drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera was injured during a clash with authorities. Authorities did confirm that El Chapo is in Mexico and they have narrowed down the search.
On Friday afternoon an angered Mexico’s National Security Commissioner Renato Sales called out the reporting by NBC by saying “there’s nothing there”, Mexico’s MVS Noticias reported.
The claims were made by NBC News in their story “El Chapo on the run: Drug Lord Has Leg, Face Injuries: Sources”. In their story, the news outlet claimed that Mexican marines had zeroed in last week on El Chapo at a ranch near Cosala, Sinaloa.
Mexican military helicopters had come under fire and a team of marine had entered the ranch and chased the drug lord who fled on ATV’s, NBC claimed.
The statement by Sales was made during a press conference to announce the capture of Angel Eduardo “Ciclon 7 or Orejon (Big Ears)” who is the top leader within the Ciclones faction of the Gulf Cartel.
Just hours after the Sales called out NBC, the Mexican government issued out a news release addressing “the stories published by some national and international news outlets.”
In their statement the agency claimed that since his escape from prison, Guzman Loera has been a target of the multiple agencies that make the National Security Commission (CNS).
The CNS stated that they have carried out raids and operations nationwide and in recent weeks they have focused on the northwestern part of Mexico.
“As a result of these actions and to avoid capture, in recent days the fugitive carried out a hurried escape, which according to information gathered ended up causing injured to his leg and face … It is important to point out that these injuries were not the result of any confrontations.”
