“Rape denier” is not a term to be thrown around loosely, especially by me, someone accused of that numerous times for my unforgivable sin of proving Lena Dunham falsely accused an innocent man of rape.  “The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg is a different story altogether.

No one loved Bill Cosby more than I did. No one. But as long ago as last year I came to terms with the rape allegations against him. The latest revelations surrounding Cosby’s 2005 admission about giving female sex partners Quaaludes is creepy enough without adding on the more than 20 rape allegations. Upon learning such a thing about Cosby in a vacuum, you realize this is not the man you thought he was. Outside of that vacuum, to any rational person, Cosby’s admission feels like the final puzzle piece being put into place.

Unsurprisingly, once again in the face of all this evidence, ABC’s Whoopi Goldberg, the longtime host of “The View,” assumes the role of a rape denier. After the Quaalude revelation Tuesday, Goldberg quadrupled down on her longstanding defense of Cosby:

“I think it’s, again, we’ll see what happens,” Goldberg said of the Cosby developments. “As more information comes out, people can make judgments. I don’t like snap judgments.”

The TV host added she didn’t care what critics would say of her stance.

“Save your texts; save your nasty comments. I don’t care. I say this because this is my opinion, and in America, still, I know it’s a shock, but you are still innocent until proven guilty,” she said. “He has not been proven a rapist.”

What a cowardly and absurd refuge “not been proven” is. Not to mention a false choice. Because the statute of limitations makes it impossible to charge Cosby in a  court of law, Goldberg can continue to hide behind that false choice.

Not that innocent until proven guilty means a hot damn to “The View’s” serial rape denier.

Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski pleaded guilty to drugging and raping a 13 year-old girl.

In that case, all the legal process Whoopi feels must be due was duly and legally processed.

Nonetheless, in 2009 and again on “The View,” Goldberg denied Polanski had committed rape. “I know it wasn’t rape-rape,” Goldberg said. “Initially he was charged with rape, and then pled guilty to having sex with a minor.”

Again, the child was a child, the child was drugged, and the child testified that she had attempted to resist Polanski. The child also said Polanski sodomized her.

Currently, “The View” is sinking in the ratings and as a cultural force. Oddly enough, according to the latest news reports, it is only Whoopi who is assured of keeping her job.

You think that would be the case if this rape denier were a conservative?

Democrats sure got it good.
