TV Newser is reporting that MSNBC has begun its long-expected move to shake up its daytime programming with the cancellation of “The Reid Report,” the 2pm ET block hosted by Joy Reid. Reid will stick around as an on-air contributor.
Reid, a left-wing extremist obsessed with race and identity politics, lasted a little over a year in the anchor chair. Her show never really tried to be interesting or provocative. Predictably, day after day after day, even as cancellation loomed, Reid never challenged the dogma, and if she ever invited on a guest who challenged her in any meaningful way, I missed it.
Basically, Reid delivered left-wing talk radio over cable television, reassuring pablum for left-wing elites. Reid is obviously bright and has personality but for whatever reason she was not allowed to have her own on-air identity. She was there to serve the collective and stay on the talking points — just like many in the MSNBC line up.
MSNBC is currently suffering through a ratings crisis no one imagined just a couple of years ago. The left-wing cable network’s ratings are collapsing across the board. Daytime is an especially weak area and other changes are expected.
