In an email exchange with the Huffington Post’s Michael Calderone, former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw disputed reports that he is calling for Brian Williams to be fired. Brokaw, however, is obviously not defending or standing by his successor. “I have neither demanded nor suggested Brian be fired,” Brokaw told HuffPo. “His future is up to Brian and NBC News executives.”
Through an NBC source, The New York Post originated the story that Brokaw was calling for Williams’s head. It spread far and wide, including here at Breitbart News.
CNN’s Brian Stelter claimed to have confirmed the Post report through his own reporting. This was the same day Stelter was forced to retract his reporting based on a source that falsely claimed he was Williams’ chopper pilot on the day on question.
