Vice News: Treat Guns Like Cars, Require Firearm Password Locks

On Sunday, Vice News ran a story arguing the government needs to treat guns like cars and regulate them heavily.

They suggest that doing so will reduce gun violence, basing their claims on arguments from the George Soros-funded Center for American Progress (CAP) and Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

According to Vice News, “CAP projects that 6,040 individuals aged 15 to 24 will likely die from gunshot wounds in 2015, and 5,864 from car crashes.” Although many of the gun deaths in this age bracket will certainly be the result of the kind of gang violence seen in gun control meccas like Chicago, Vice News makes no differentiation between gun deaths from gang violence and other gun-related deaths.

Instead, the column quickly slips into a comparison between how cars are regulated and guns are not.

They quote Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts: “We have invested a lot of money in car safety… Every fatality on our nation’s roads has been documented by the government.” She said drivers’ licenses and vehicle license plates help police “instantly identify the validity of the owner” of a car or truck, yet she suggested “no such measures exist for concealed weapons.”

But what are concealed carry handgun licenses if not a way to instantly identify the validity of the person carrying the gun?

With no mention of concealed carry licenses or the 2nd Amendment, Moms Demand Action simply continues to push for regulation on top of regulation.

For example, Vice News later quotes Moms Demand Action’s Carmen Vellon, who says, “Universal background checks is to us a no-brainer.” Vellon goes on to talk about how Sandy Hook was “the last straw” and now the fight for more gun control is on.

Neither Vice News or Moms Demand Action mentioned that expanded background checks would not have stopped Adam Lanza from committing his heinous crime, as he stole his mother’s guns. Moreover, they did not mention that Jerad and Amanda Miller, the June 2014 Las Vegas gunman and gunwoman, acquired their firearms through background checks, as did Santa Barbara gunman Elliot Rodger, 2014 Fort Hood gunman Ivan Lopez, Maryland Mall gunman Darion Marcus Aguilar, LAX gumnan Paul Ciancia, DC Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis, Aurora theater gunman James Holmes, Tucson Safeway gunman Jared Loughner, and  2009 Fort Hood gunman Nidal Hasan, just to name a few.

Gun control did not hinder these criminals, but it did contribute to the defenselessness of their many victims.
