If there were more hours in the day and not so many bad players in the media, Breitbart News consumers would read a lot more about Josh Rogin and Eli Lake, two superb national security/foreign policy reporters who are about to leave a gaping hole in this area at the Daily Beast.
The Huffington Post’s Michael Calderone confirmed that both Lake and Rogin — who frequently share a byline — are leaving the Daily Beast, possibly for Bloomberg View, though that part has not been confirmed.
Rogin and Lake are responsible for some of the best reporting to come out of the Obama administration. Both dig, break stories, and leave agenda and partisan politics out of it. They are, in my opinion, the ideal of what a reporter should be: tenacious, thorns in the side to power — watchdogs in search of truth, corruption, dishonesty, and incompetence. And in this day and age, as we have seen throughout Obama’s tenure, that is a rarity.
The departure of Rogin and Lake represents a huge loss for the Daily Beast and a huge gain for wherever they land.
