After Matt Drudge changed journalism forever by revealing Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky–and the mainstream media’s attempts to cover it up–Keith Olbermann apologized to President Bill Clinton in 1988 for his network’s “ceaseless coverage” of the scandal.
A 1998 internal White House email, which appeared in a new batch of documents that the Clinton Library and the National Archives released on Friday, noted that “Keith Olbermann has written to POTUS apologizing for ‘whatever part I may have played in perpetuating this ceaseless coverage (of the Lewinsky story) …. I’ll be heading back to my previous career in sports as quickly as possible …. ‘”
White House officials noted that Olbermann, who was working at MSNBC a decade before he may have irreparably lurched the network to the far left before leaving it in shambles, “may be going back to sports coverage (See the attached article below) because of this” and included a draft of “our generic text for support letters to the President”:
Dear Keith:Thanks so much for your kind message. I’ve been touched by the many expressions of.encouragement and support I have received from friends across the country.
I’m grateful you got in touch with me, and I send you my very best wishes.
Sincerely, POTUS
