Chelsea Clinton announced Friday that she is officially leaving NBC News after the media organization reportedly paid her annual salary of $600,000.
Clinton noted that she would continue a relationship with NBC in the future.
“Chelsea’s storytelling inspired people across the country and showcased the real power we have as individuals to make a difference in our communities,” Alex Wallace, a senior vice president of NBC News told People Magazine in response to the news. “While she will be missed, we look forward to working with her in the future.”
Clinton was hired as a special correspondent for NBC in November 2011, but was quickly panned by critics.
A Washington Post critic described her as “one of the most boring people of her era.”
A 2012 Buzzfeed report cited television executives calling the Clinton hiring process “horrible” and that she was “terrible” on television.
In recent months, Clinton moved to a month-to-month contract, according to a Politico report which revealed in June that she had previously earned a $600,000 salary. According to a Business Insider analysis in June, Clinton had appeared in only 14 NBC aired segments.
