Huffington Post editor Willow Bay was named director of the University of Southern California’s journalism school on Wednesday. Starting in June, Bay will take over the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, overseeing programs dedicated to reporting and public relations.
The former TV news anchor will continue in her capacity as senior editor for the Huffington Post, where she specializes in high profile interviews with the likes of Warren E. Buffett and former President Bill Clinton. “I’m so excited by the opportunity not just to educate and inspire but to help bring into practice entirely new ways of covering stories and reporting news,” she said. “I already find their graduates completely fearless about experimentation.”
Bay pointed out that the journalism department is planning an 88,000-square foot building expansion this fall, which will include a three-story “media wall” and newsroom. “It’s the future – a fully integrated digital newsroom with online, print, broadcasting, podcasting, long-form reporting, radio, all in one location,” she said enthusiastically.
Bay, 50, is married to Robert A. Iger, the Walt Disney Company chief executive, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and has an M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Bay did a stint as co-anchor of the Sunday version of Good Morning America and various CNN and NBC programs.
