ABC News’ Barbara Walters presented her final “Most Fascinating Person” segment on Wednesday – and she didn’t just give it for 2013, she gave it for the last 20 years. On Tuesday, Walters said that President Obama could have been “the next Messiah.” But even Obama could not take the prize over Walters’ 2016 hopeful, Hillary Clinton.
“Now our choice for the most fascinating person of this year, and we believe the past 20,” Walters intoned, introducing Clinton. Walters then said that Clinton had not been in politics for the past year – “like normal people!” Walters crowed – but that didn’t stop her from becoming the most interesting person of 2013. “This program,” Walters stated, “was born at the start of the Clinton era, and it appears we might be at the dawn of another.”
Walters then asked Hillary a series of facile questions, beginning with the most obvious: “When will you, if you do, decide whether or not you’re going to run for president?” She also asked Hillary if she thought it was time for a female president, a notion to which Clinton quickly agreed. There were no questions about Benghazi, Obamacare, or any other item of actual relevance. Other questions:
- “Does your husband want you to run?”
- “If you ran and you became President, what would they call your husband?”
Walters concluded, “You and I have indeed done so many interviews, and I’m so proud of the fact that we’ve done them….I would like you to note that I have not asked you about your hair.”
Fascinating, indeed.
