CNN’s Wolf Blitzer has never been accused of being the smoothest, most polished cable news personality. But his “deer in a headlights” awkward on-air style reached new heights (or lows) this weekend when he wrapped up a report on the Iran nuclear deal and “tossed” the audience to CNN’s special program on the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Assassination.
That’s when things went horribly wrong…
“I’m Wolf Blitzer, reporting from Washington. The Assassination of President Kennedy begins…right now.”
The problem here is that the name of the CNN special was “The Assassination of President Kennedy,” but a seasoned professional with years of experience doing the basic formatics of a cable news show should be able to deal with an awkward phrase on a a teleprompter.
It’s not like Wolf was in his first couple of weeks on the air like Al Sharpton was when he gave the world this gem:
“But resist, we much… we must… and we will much… about… that… be committed.”
The fact is, these Teleprompter fails happen. What separates the good news readers from the not-so-good news readers is grace and aplomb and confident self-awareness. Exhibit A: Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, who shows Wolf and Rev. Al how it’s done. Her secret? Pull back the curtain and let the viewers feel your pain:
