Thursday, technocrat Ezra Klein was on a rampage over at the Washington Post to save ObamaCare. After spending three years covering up the fact that ObamCare will devastate the individual insurance market, Klein is now trying to convince skittish Democrats that this is a good thing (screw millions of ObamaCare’s victims!). So shrill is Klein, he is now trying to claim that charging the young and/or healthy less for insurance is “discrimination.”
It’s useful to think of this in terms of who, on the margin, should be paying higher premiums: The people who’ve benefited from the various kinds of discrimination that undergird the current system, or the people who’ve been victimized by that discrimination? Bills like Landrieu’s lower premiums for people who have benefited from the system at the cost of raising them for the people who’ve been locked out of the current system.
Apparently, this is the new White House spin…
1. We meant to destroy the individual market, so ObamaCare is a success.
2. It is discrimination to charge people based on what their health care might cost.
…and who better to help spread it than a calculating propagandist like Klein.
Klein’s New World Order line of spin perfectly fits with what ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber said to NBC’s Chuck Todd today. After wrist-flicking the millions who have lost their insurance, Gruber talked about “genetic winners” and, yep, discrimination:

We currently have a highly discriminatory system where if you’re sick, if you’ve been sick or if you’re going to get sick, you cannot get health insurance. The only way to end that discriminatory system is to bring everyone into the system and pay one fair price. That means that the genetic winners, the lottery winners who have been paying an artificially low price because of this discrimination now will have to pay more in return. And that by my estimate is about four million people..
Nothing puts a chill up my spine like hearing a guy named Gruber talk about genetic winners and losers.
As is usually the case, though, the left’s attempt to sound sterile and logical is all a charade. While genetics might have something to do with it, why should those who take care of themselves be punished because others do not?
Shouldn’t we encourage people to live a safer lifestyle and to take care of themselves? If you keep your weight down, eat healthy, don’t drink or take drugs, and exercise regularly, it is not discrimination to enjoy the benefits of that discipline, moderation, and hard work?
If you were to apply Klein and Gruber’s twisted logic to auto insurance, the White House would have us all pay the same regardless of our driving records. But they would justify that because genetics make some of us better drivers than others.
