NBC’s Katie Couric revealed her colon to the world during The Today Show in 2000. On Thursday, 13 years later, Matt Lauer and Al Roker of Today revealed other bodily orifices in receiving live prostate exams on air. “We should mention, we’re going to do this in a tasteful way – this is not The Learning Channel,” said host Savannah Guthrie. Lauer actually just went into a doctor’s office, shut the door, and emerged triumphantly 34 seconds later, when his doctor told the cameras that his prostate was small, smooth, and free of nodules.
The only lively moment of the event came when Dr. David Samadi announced he had lost five points so he could thin his finger enough to fit into the anal cavities of his patients. “Is it the best 34 seconds of your life? Probably not,” said Lauer. After Roker’s exam, Samadi said, “For a second opinion, I’m going to use two fingers.”
Guthrie’s response: “We’re so proud! We could have done without the finger humor. This is the most exciting prostate exam I’ve ever known!”
