Screw You, Eliot Spitzer. That’s the message from New York tabloid the Daily News in their vociferous endorsement of Spitzer’s opponent Scott Stringer in the New York City Comptroller race.
Less an endorsement for Springer than a devastating take-down of Spitzer, the editorial details Spitzer’s issues with gaining back the trust of New Yorkers and the full, front page banner sums it up in a pithy and aggressive manner befitting Gotham’s “in-your-face” tabloid tradition:
Pugnaciously, he swats away inquiries as intended to violate the privacy of his sex life and marriage. This is a two-fisted defense against legitimate scrutiny of his violations of criminal codes and of his oaths of office. Those were of concern only to historians until Spitzer suddenly asked again for public trust.
