On August 5 the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) carried a column suggesting that influences other than Islamism may have impacted the thinking of Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
Among these influences were magazines the Boston bomber was able to read at the home of Donald Larking, an elderly gentlemen for whom his mother was a caregiver.
These allegedly included publications that claimed “the U.S is under the sway of Israeli lobbyists” and other “anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.” WSJ even reported there was a magazine that espoused “equal rights for whites,” which is tied to a website that has a Confederate flag on it.
The WSJ also reported that in addition to the anti-Israeli conspiracies and the Confederate flag, the elderly gentlemen was able to talk to Tsarnaev about his political views too. These conversations were described as “animated talks about politics.”
Other readings, including the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, were alleged as well. This reading “describes an alleged plan by Jewish leaders to take over the world.”
