CBS News’ Bob Schieffer took aim at the Obama White House today and their involvement in the IRS scandal. “Welcome to dumb and dumber,” Schieffer intoned, as he railed against the administration’s contention that no one really knew anything about this or the other scandals until they heard about it on the news.

It did take awhile for the news to get to some quarters. We’ve heard that the President said he didn’t find out about it until last week. Last week!

Which qualified him for Washington’s fastest-growing club: the longer and longer list of officials who suddenly don’t know much about a lot of unpleasant things, from Benghazi to the Associated Press investigation.

At this point, spare me the talking points and the excuses. No matter whether Republicans or Democrats are doing this kind of thing, this stuff is not just wrong, it’s really stupid, and it will take more than firing a few temps and low-level bureaucrats to fix it.

Of course, the problem with Schieffer’s criticism is it doesn’t wash with everything we’ve been told about President Obama over the past six years.  We’ve been told President Obama is one of the smartest, most competent men to inhabit the oval office. If that’s the fact, how can the IRS scandal be written off as merely “dumb” behavior?
