Why Didn't Hillary Clinton Appear on Sunday Shows After Benghazi?

Why was U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice sent to appear on the Sunday talk shows on September 16, 2012 instead of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to discuss the terrorist attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya?

After all, Clinton, not Rice, was Ambassador Christopher Stevens’ boss.

According to the Politico, this question is now being asked of the Obama administration. Rice told NBC’s Brian Williams, “Secretary Clinton had originally been asked by most of the networks to go on. [But] she had incredibly grueling week dealing with the protests around the Middle East and North Africa.”

Well, if Clinton couldn’t go, then why wasn’t National Security Adviser Tom Donilon asked to make the rounds? Also, then-CIA Director David Petraeus would have been been a viable option, but the White House couldn’t use him because he refused to stick to the altered talking points.

Ultimately, Rice was sent to talk to the press. Now one question remains–was Rice sent because Clinton couldn’t afford to be tainted with Benghazi while pursuing the White House in 2016?
