According to “Morning Joe” panalist Donny Deutsch, Sen. Kelly Ayotte’s (R-NH) opposition to gun control measures is worse than her colleagues’ opposition because she’s a woman.
“Is it even more surprising to you when a woman goes against this?” Deutsch asked the panel. “When you see a woman — maternal, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah — it almost takes it to another level.”
Given the opportunity to call Deutsch on his obvious sexism, host Mika Brzezinski appeared to agree. “I am surprised — for a completely different reason than you think — but there are female sensibilities that we bring to the table, which are valuable when it comes to leading our country, and we need more women, certainly in power and in Washington. I am stumped by Heidi Heitkamp or Kelly Ayotte or any man who voted no on this, just because it’s not panning out well for them.”
When a group of political pundits expect a person to think a certain way or behave in a certain way because that person is a woman, in most circles they’d be called “sexist.” Imagine if the roundtable on Fox News’ “Special Report” claimed that Sen. Dianne Feinstein was pushing for gun control because she is being motivated by her “female sensibilities.” Just imagine.
