Tuesday morning’s “Morning Joe” roundtable on MSNBC focused on recent remarks made by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) at a FreedomWorks event. At the rally Cruz told stories about his fellow Republican Senators’ approach to last month’s gun control debate.
They said: ‘Listen, before you did this, the politics of it were great. The Democrats were the bad guys. The Republicans were the good guys. Now we all look like a bunch of squishes.’ Well, there is an alternative, you could just not be a bunch of squishes.
The MSNBC panel, led by former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough, attacked Cruz as a “liar” and a “jerk.”
Scarborough went first and claimed to have a better inside knowledge of discussions in Republican caucus meetings than Cruz does. “A lot of people in Washington, including myself, we know what went on inside those meetings, and what Ted Cruz is saying is not true.”
Panelist Jonathan Capehart joined the Cruz bashing and made it personal: “If there’s bipartisan agreement on Capitol Hill it’s that Sen. Cruz is a bit of a jerk. Well, maybe not a bit of a jerk. He is a jerk. Democrats don’t like him, but Republicans really can’t stand him.”
Scarborough then went on to mock Cruz as a fake, suggesting that he is playing the role of a grassroots conservative when, in fact, he’s a Harvard lawyer who has been in positions of privilege and power all his life.
