Former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), President of The Heritage Foundation, appeared on “Mornings on the Mall” on WMAL-FM in Washington DC Tuesday morning to speak out against the “Immigration Reform” bill. After some very critical comments about the bill and after he referred to the legalization process as “amnesty,” I asked him about Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) role in the legislation and with the “Gang of Eight.”
“I think he’s found, as I did, that the only way to get any, even small reforms of our system, is you have to give in to the Democrats desire to put people on a path to citizenship and unfortunately that’s something that the whole gang of eight is supporting.”
“Do you think Marco Rubio has given in to the Democrats?” I asked DeMint.
“Who knows how all that worked. I know he began the process wanting to fix the system, just as I did, and he’ll always be a good friend of mine, we just disagree on this issue. “
