A revealing and sycophantic profile of Fox News’ Shepard Smith appeared in the Los Angeles Times on Saturday, and it explored the anchor’s mad love for Rachel Maddow and skepticism over the Catholic Church’s policy toward women.
One aspect of the Q & A sticks out to even the most casual media observer. Smith was asked what he reads every day to prepare for his show. His answer is disturbing, to say the least:
The New York Times, the New York Post, the Washington Post, the New York Daily News, and local newspapers all over the country, the Huffington Post, Foxnews.com and the Daily Beast and Talking Points memo and the L.A. Times and the San Francisco Chronicle, the Dallas Morning News, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Miami Herald…. I’m on everything, all day, every day. If it were fattening I would be obese.
Notice a pattern? Other than the New York Post, which is probably laying around the office at Fox News because their parent company, News Corp. owns it, every other publication Smith reads is liberal leaning.
Beyond that.. he actually hangs out on radically left-leaning sites like Talking Points Memo. And there are no equivalent sites on his list coming from a conservative perspective. When all you see is main stream liberal publications like WaPo and NY Times, and then unabashedly liberal activist sites like Daily Beast, HuffPo and TPM, you’re bound to be influenced and skewed by their content, especially when not balanced out by the many right-leaning news options now available.
