CNN Plays 'Stupid Girl' to Intro Piece on Sarah Palin

Apparently they wish they hadn’t done it now, but CNN must have thought it was a hilarious thing to play a song by singer Pink titled Stupid Girl as it introduced a report on Sarah Palin’s support of Chick-Fil-A on its July 29 Sunday morning program.

Palin and husband Todd visited one of the fast food chain’s Houston, Texas locations to show support for Chick-Fil-A over the weekend prompting the CNN report.

A clip of the song containing the “stupid girl” line played just before CNN Sunday Morning anchor Randy Kaye started the short report saying, “Sarah Palin is apparently hungry for chicken and controversy.”

One could also hear the contempt in anchor Kaye’s voice when she said, “that’s her and her husband Todd,” when a photo of the couple showed onscreen.

But after it was pointed out by many a viewer that this was neither funny nor particularly news-like of the cabler, apologies began to roll out.

“The music selection was a poor choice and was not intended to be linked to any news story,” a CNN spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. “We regret any perception that they were planned together.”

Perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that CNN president Jim Walton recently resigned saying that it was clear that the cable station needed “new thinking” due to its continued fall in the cable ratings.
