If you can’t beat ’em, imitate ’em.
MSNBC will be replacing Dylan Ratigan’s weekday show with “The Cycle,” a new program featuring four political pundits grappling with the issues of the day.
The new program has nothing to do with “The Five,” the Fox News chat-fest featuring five political pundits grappling with the issues of the day.
The Huffington Post reports the new MSNBC show will begin airing at 3 p.m. EST Monday and include a liberal heavy lineup: Conservative commentator S.E. Cupp and three left-of-center personalities – Touré, Salon writer Steve Kornacki and former Congressional candidate Krystal Ball.
“The Cycle’s” executive producer Steve Friedman bristled at comparisons to “The Five.”
“When ‘The Five’ started, did you go and ask them if they were doing ‘The View’?” he asked. “When ‘The View’ started, did you ask them if they were doing the ‘Today’ show?”
Kudos to MSNBC for daring to include a conservative in the mix, even if she’s outnumbered on a daily basis. The addition of Cupp didn’t sit well with the channel’s small audience, though.
News outlets that reported initial rumors about Cupp’s hiring were immediately besieged with comments hammering MSNBC for bringing another regular conservative voice onto its airwaves.
