Watch all of this ABC News report from last night. A former classmate of Mitt Romney’s, Philip Maxwell, recalls the 47 year-old story of the haircutting incident as though it’s straight out of a horror movie where the victim comes back as an adult to knock off his aggressors one-by-one at a class reunion.
Pay special attention, however, to the tail end of the clip where ABC News’ David Muir talks about the political affiliation of Mr. Maxwell:

David Muir:
I did ask that other former classmate, Philip Maxwell, the man who described [Romney’s bullying] in such detail — is he a Democrat, is he a Republican? — he says, he’s voted for both and, in fact, he would’ve voted for George Romney, Mitt Romney’s father, had he won the nomination.
Well, recently, this same Philip Maxwell told Automobile Magazine writer, David Murray:
“‘I’m a Democrat, so I won’t vote for him,’ says Maxwell. ‘But he’d probably make a pretty good President. He’s very smart, very principled.'”
According to Automobile Magazine, Philip Maxwell is a Democrat who is obviously going to vote for Barack Obama.
The question now is who lied? Did ABC News choose to not tell its audience that Maxwell stated he was a Democrat who intends to vote for Barack Obama? In other words, did they ellipses their way past that inconvenient fact. Or did Maxwell hem and haw around his political affiliation. Whoever the guilty party is, the intent is obviously to do as much damage to Romney as possible by presenting a “damning” witness as not having a political agenda.
I guess it’s somehow possible Automobile Magazine got it wrong, but I doubt it.
You have to give ABC News’ anchor Diane Sawyer credit for questiong the timing of the Washington Post’s hit-piece, but the behavior of ABC News in this matter hasn’t exactly been exemplary. The network is obviously as dedicated to keeping this narrative alive as the White House.
