Just when you thought the NBC News cable outlet (MSNBC) had gone too far, they somehow find a way to out do themselves in propaganda hysteria aimed at their favorite Bogey man: The Tea Party. Martin Bashir (the reporter who anchors the mid-day “news” portion of the MSNBC programming schedule) presented an entire segment yesterday featuring a psychologist who explained that the Tea Party movement consists of “delusional addicts” who could very well turn “violent” in the near future.
You’ll recall that Keith Olbermann led the charge at the Peacock Network by giving voice to angry spinster Janeane Garofalo and her well reasoned “Tea Party Is Racist/Limbic Brain” theory. The rest of their line-up wasn’t far behind with Matthews, Maddow and Schultz presenting the “violent rhetoric” stories, the “Racial Slurs at John Lewis” legend, or the “Tea Partiers are Terrorist/Hostage Takers” story lines. They’ve thrown all these slanders against the wall to see what would stick and through it all, the politicians and the voters who continue to argue for smaller government, lower taxes and less federal regulation keep their heads down, persevere and ultimately prevail.
So it seems logical that the next step in the continuing political war waged by NBC News against the thriving conservative movement in America is to call them just plain crazy.
Sadly, this isn’t a new tactic. In the 1964 presidential campaign President Lyndon Johnson painted his opponent, conservative icon Barry Goldwater, as mentally disturbed. As usual, the media tools were more than willing to put their laughable integrity on the line by lending their brand of objective analysis to the ugly political tactic. The ironically named “Fact Magazine” published an article which polled psychiatrists around the country regarding Goldwater’s sanity. Incredibly, 1,189 psychiatrists agreed that Goldwater was “emotionally unstable” and unfit for office, though none of them had actually interviewed Goldwater. The article received heavy publicity. In a libel suit, Goldwater was ultimately awarded $1 in compensation, of course this was after the election that Goldwater lost.
Recently George W. Bush was analyzed for his obvious mental instabilities, and not just by armchair hacks like Oliver Stone and Michael Moore. Dr. Justin A. Frank, a psychoanalyst, wrote ”Bush on the Couch: Inside the Mind of the President’‘ which examined President Bush’s early life and found a man who ”consistently exhibits an array of multiple, serious and untreated symptoms.” The war in Iraq was clearly the symptom of ”the drive of an undernurtured and emotionally hobbled infant.” “Doctor” Frank concluded that the ”sole treatment option — for his benefit and for ours — is to remove President Bush from office.”
And now, thanks to NBC News and their “just the facts” anchor Martin Bashir, we have the latest in TV quackery not just analyzing a president or a senator, no now they’re analyzing an entire political movement. Bashir dragged out “expert on addiction” Dr. Stanton Peele. He ate his doggy treat from Bashir (in this case the treat came in the form of a plug for one of his God-awful books) and then did his trick. He proclaimed the obvious mental deficiencies of the deranged conservatives in our midst and mused about their violent nature.
In the midst of his analysis he also was given a platform to share his brilliant economic theories as well. You see, the Tea Party movement is sure to turn violent when they discover that “no new taxes won’t bring economic recovery” according to “expert on addiction” Dr. Stanton Peele. Man, Dr. Peele is really a one-stop shop for leftist dogma, isn’t he?
He even drew parallels to the nut-job murderer in Norway, Anders Behring Breivik. Dr. Peele seems to have no compunction for providing a diagnosis of Breivik despite the fact that he is about 7,000 miles from the cell in which he now resides. No matter, if MSNBC can get an “expert” with a medical degree to come on the air and diagnosis the Tea Party as deranged and mentally deficient and at the same time execute the double bank trick shot of comparing them to a mass-murderer with racist views he is given free reign. Bashir never challenged one of Dr. Peele’s assertions and clearly agreed with his expert guest.
Based on this outstanding performance, I’m thinking Al Sharpton should be worried, there might be a one hour show in the prime time line-up for this guy. No, not for Bashir… for Dr. Peele! He’s got everything NBC News is looking for in this election cycle.
