Here is how the AP describes the video below: “Mobs set two churches on fire in western Cairo on Sunday as clashes broke out between Muslims and Christians, killing up to 12 people and injuring more than 200.”
“Clashes between Muslims and Christians” makes it sound like a scene from “West Side Story” with two sides causing equal amounts of trouble. But there were no Mosques burned in the clashes, only Christian Churches.
The proof that AP’s video editors slanted the description is found in the headline provided by the AP’s print division. Sarah El Deeb’s article is titled: “Muslim mobs burn Egyptian churches, 12 killed”. Paints a slightly different picture, doesn’t it?
It’s not surprising considering the liberal elite spent weeks characterizing the Egyptian uprisings as a “power to the people” movement without taking into serious consideration the sad reality that Islamic extremists were very influential in the revolution that toppled a reliable ally in a very critical, if not complicated country.
So, it’s understandable that some editors at AP might go out of their way to down-play the extreme elements that are now resorting to ugly violence against the Christian minority in Egypt. Something that was kept under control during President Mubarak’s time in office.
