Matt Lauer will follow Meredith Vieira out the door at NBC‘s “Today” show.
But not for a while, according to “Entertainment Tonight,” which reported the veteran show host had told his NBC bosses he’ll leave when his contract expires in December 2012.
NBC officials would say nothing for the record on Wednesday.
“There seems to be an awful lot of speculation around news anchors these days, and it’s not our practice to comment on any of it,” said a Today spokeswoman. “Matt Lauer has a long-term contract with NBC News and Today.”
Lauer, 53, will have been on the NBC morning show for thirteen years when his contract expires in December 2012.
The show currently keeps him away from his wife Annette and their three young children, who have moved to the Hamptons year round.
Last May she decided to decamp full time to their home Laurel Hill in Sag Harbor, while Lauer stays in Manhattan during he week so he can film, a situation she detailed to Vogue earlier this year in an article entitled ‘A Separate Peace’.
