If someone were to ask you how many now convicted child pornographers Senator Barbara Boxer has employed, what would your answer be? My answer would have been none, before beginning an investigation into media double standards, as a result of the Charlie Wilson case.

Big Government readers may recall how BG broke the story of serial spousal abuser Charlie Wilson, up for re-election in Ohio 6.

Ohio Democrat Congressman Charlie Wilson was first elected to Congress in the Democrat wave year of 2006. Prior to that, he had been a long-time member of the Ohio state legislature, first elected to the Ohio House in 1996 and the Ohio Senate in 2004. (One of his four grown sons succeeded him in the legislature and is currently an Ohio State Senator.) He was also married for 27 years to his wife, Clara. The marriage ended in divorce in 1990.

Barbara Boxer’s issues don’t date back quite that far, as Newsbusters pointed out in November of 2008:

A high-level adviser for Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Cali) was charged Wednesday with receiving and distributing child pornography. […] Although Jeff Rosato was arrested and fired last Friday, this story has garnered very little attention from the mainstream press.

Eventually, Rosato pled guilty and was sentence to five-years in federal prison, as reported on May 02, 2009. However, he’s not the only former Boxer employee recently convicted for child pornography. Enter Bernie Ward.

After leaving the priesthood, Ward taught at Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa and at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose. From 1982 to 1985 he worked for then-Rep. Barbara Boxer as her chief legislative assistant.

As the case played out, Ward and his liberal defenders insisted he had only been conducting research. That myth was exploded when he was sentenced to over 7 years in prison in 2008.

A federal judge decreed a prison term of more than seven years Thursday for Bernie Ward, whose 15-year career as a leading liberal voice on Bay Area talk radio disintegrated when he admitted downloading graphic images of child sex and distributing them on the Internet.

Despite years of Ward’s marching along with and pushing the same progressive agenda as Boxer – and Pelosi, by the way, one does not find the type of explosive media coverage to be expected were Boxer and Ward conservatives, or Republicans. Furthermore, this is the very first time Barbara Boxer has faced voters since the conviction of two former employees on charges related to child pornography. My guess is we’d be reading plenty of stories about Barbara Boxer’s inability to hire quality, non-criminal staffers, were she a Republican.

Finally, given that Ward was ultimately turned in by a dominatrix, it does cause one to wonder if Barbara Boxer insisted on his calling her Senator, Ma’am, or perhaps Mistress did the trick in Ward’s case. We do know how fussy she can be about how she’s addressed, after all.
