The apprehension of illegal immigrants crossing the southwestern U.S./Mexico Border has risen steadily into numbers previously reported by the Obama Administration. Since falling to a historic low point in April 2017, apprehensions have increased in each of the following seven months.
The number of apprehensions fell to a historic low of 15,786 in April 2017, Breitbart Texas reported. Since that time, the number of apprehensions increased in each of the subsequent months to 39,006 in November 2017–up more than 147 percent. In the first two months of Fiscal Year 2018, which began on October 1, the numbers increased more than 25 percent from 31,155 in September to 39,906 in November, according to information obtained from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.
The total apprehensions and inadmissibles numbers for November 2017 are slightly higher than Obama’s November 2014 numbers. The 2014 figure coincides with Breitbart Texas’ revelation of the massive numbers of Unaccompanied Alien Children pouring into the U.S. from Central America. Breitbart Texas Editor-in-Chief Brandon Darby released leaked photos of the children being packed into warehouses in South Texas in June 2014.
The number of apprehensions are down sharply when comparing the first two months of Fiscal Years 2017 and 2018. However, the number of apprehension during the first three months of FY2017 are skewed sharply higher due to the political impact of the 2016 presidential election. Just two days before the election of President Donald Trump, Breitbart Texas’ Ildefonso Ortiz reported that Mexican cartels were using the U.S. election as a “marketing tool” to push higher numbers of illegal immigrants across the border before it was considered too late.
From Trump’s election in November 2016 until the low point in April 2017, apprehensions fell from a high of 66,708 in October to April’s 15,766 – a decrease of 76 percent.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector in South Texas continues to lead the nation with 11,729 total apprehensions in the first two months of the fiscal year. This represents over 40 percent of the total of 29,086. The five Texas sectors (which includes part of New Mexico) accounted for 17,670 of the total 29,096 apprehensions.
