Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick told the press corps that he would never run for Governor. He said “I will be lieutenant governor and this will be my last position.”
The Lieutenant Governor had just banged the gavel signaling the adjournment of the senate sine die. He came off the dias and talked with the press on the last day of the session. There was no special session in the future.
After he talked about the 84th legislative session, the Lieutenant Governor told the press gathering in the senate chambers that he wanted to address rumors that he was running for Governor.
“Let me bury that today,” Patrick said. “I will never be running against Greg Abbott for governor.” He continued, “I have never even thought about it.”
The Lieutenant Governor continued, “I will be lieutenant governor and this will be my last position. This will be my last job in Texas.” He added, “I love this job”, and “This is where the action is. It’s a lot of fun.”
Patrick said “I love this job and I love working with Gov. Abbott. We are close friends and have formed a great partnership. I will never be running against Greg Abbott for governor and anyone who spreads that rumor is just spreading a rumor that is false,” he said.
