After several days of chaos near the Texas border due to cartel firefights, an unknown individual threw a grenade at the Matamoros City Hall, a Mexican city just across the border from Brownsville, Texas.
The grenade was thrown shortly after 7 a.m., at which point an anonymous call was made to the city’s emergency phone system warning of an explosive device outside of the government building, according to information provided to Breitbart Texas by the Tamaulipas government.
Authorities responded to the scene, creating a security perimeter, and found a grenade in the parking lot which had not been activated. According to Tamaulipas officials, since the grenade was not active, military personnel that removed it had not been placed in danger.
The grenade comes just one day after Matamoros Mayor Leticia Salazar issued a series of alerts to the citizens of that border city warning them about cartel shootouts. Salazar has often spoken openly about cartel violence in her city which has made her a target for cartel gunmen.
