Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk expressed interest in building an anime-style mecha giant robot on Sunday, despite failing to get Tesla car orders to customers on time.
After expressing admiration for Japanese anime, Musk declared, “It is time to create a mecha.”
The Twitter post received over 200,000 likes and 50,000 retweets.
According to Oxford Dictionaries, a mecha is “a large armored robot,” in “anime, [and] manga,” which is “typically controlled by a person riding inside the robot itself.”
Though Musk frequently uses his Twitter account to make jokes, Business Insider noted that the billionaire has previously turned jokes into a reality, such as his Boring Company, which could be worth $16 billion, despite Musk admitting it “started out as a joke.”
Musk’s company Tesla has become infamous for failing to deliver cars to customers who have paid for them, with some customers waiting years for their cars.
In September, Musk claimed the company was in “delivery logistics hell,” while in August, Tesla insiders described the company as a “shit show.”
This month, it was reported that Rupert Murdoch’s son James Murdoch could be next in line to replace Musk.
