The Department of Homeland Security declared in a statement that there is “no reason to doubt” Apple and Amazon’s claims that China did not bug their server hardware, despite a Bloomberg News report which indicated the companies were compromised.

According to a roundup by Generational Dynamics’ John J. Xenakis, the Bloomberg News investigation “found that China is installing backdoor chips on server motherboards,” which were then used in the data centers of companies, including Apple, Amazon, and Facebook.

Apple and Amazon denied the report, however, and the Department of Homeland Security has also seemingly backed them.

“Like our partners in the UK, the National Cyber Security Centre, at this time we have no reason to doubt the statements from the companies named in the story,” proclaimed the Department of Homeland Security in a statement.

Apple claimed the report was “inaccurate” and based on “wrong or misinformed” information, while Amazon claimed there was “no evidence to support claims of malicious chips or hardware modifications.”

Last year, it was reported that both Apple and Amazon had been caving into Chinese censorship regulations.
