World of Warcraft players can purchase Shadow the Fox in order to contribute to disaster relief funds, both national and international.
Virtual citizens of Azeroth can take a momentary break from solving that fantasy world’s ills to help with some of Earth’s. “Shadow” is an “artful fox” that is “bound to use its cunning to shift its way through Shadow and Light directly into your heart and home.”
100% of the proceeds from sales of the $10 furry purple in-game pet will be donated to both American Red Cross Disaster Relief and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Disaster Relief Fund. All donations will be split equally between the two organizations.
This is not the first time the World of Warcraft developer has utilized the game for humanitarian causes. In 2016, Blizzard released “Mischief the Fel Kitty” to raise money for the Make-A-Wish organization. Shadow represents their 2017 effort, but they have decided not to wait until BlizzCon 2017 to begin collecting donations in light of “the immediacy of the events, including Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, flooding in South Asia, and countless other crises.”
The opportunity to support victims of the multitude of disasters with which the world is currently grappling will be available until the year’s end. If you wish to help but are not a World of Warcraft player, you may still participate by donating directly to either organization.
