Uber has released a new set of community guidelines for customers, including bans on drugs, rude language, and even flirting.
Some of the more basic rules include sanctions for damaging the driver’s property or that of other customers in the car. This includes spilling food and drink, vomiting, and smoking.
An even more simple guideline simply states that customers cannot break the law while being driven in an Uber, specifically citing having too many people in the car, bringing along drugs or alcohol, and dealing in “drug and human trafficking or the sexual exploitation of children.”
The new rules also include a ban against flirting. “As our community guidelines make clear, you shouldn’t touch or flirt with other people in the car,” states Uber. “As a reminder, Uber has a no sex rule. That’s no sexual conduct with drivers or fellow riders, no matter what. And you should never hit or otherwise hurt a driver or fellow passenger.”
Customers are also banned from using abusive language or gestures and making unwanted contact with either the driver or other customers.
“Most riders show drivers the respect they deserve. But some don’t—whether it’s leaving trash in the car, throwing up in the back seat after too much alcohol or asking a driver to break the speed limit so they can get to their appointment on time,” declared Uber in their statement. “This kind of poor behavior is not OK, which is why we will take action against passengers who are rude, abusive or violent.”
Uber’s community guidelines also show that the company has a universal firearms ban, doesn’t allow children to travel on their own, and prohibits customers from asking whether another is “single.”
