Twitter, Spotify, Reddit Crashed by Massive Cyber-Attack

Some of the internet’s most popular services, including Twitter, Spotify, SoundCloud, AirBnB, and Reddit, were taken offline Friday by a major cyber-attack across the internet.

The suspension of services mostly took place across the east coast of the U.S. and lasted for roughly two hours before services were restored. However, some services are still encountering connection difficulties.

Internet service providers Dyn confirmed the attack on their servers Friday morning.

In a statement, Scott Hilton, Dyn’s executive vice president of products, said, “This morning, October 21, Dyn received a global DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on our Managed DNS (Domain Name System) infrastructure in the east coast of the United States.”

“DNS traffic resolved from east coast name server locations are experiencing a service degradation or intermittent interruption during this time,” it continued.

“We have been aggressively mitigating the DDoS attack against our infrastructure,” he added.
