On Sunday Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg posted a video of himself sitting by an outdoor grill, talking about how much better animals taste when you hunt them yourself.
A Green Egg smoker was also visible behind Zuckerberg and he told viewers he was smoking ribs while fielding questions from Facebook viewers around the world. He stressed that he was “smoking meats” for family and friends who were coming to his house to watch the October 9 presidential debate.
At one point during the video, a viewer suggested Zuckerberg smoke some salmon. He responded by saying, “Smoked salmon is good, but I have to say it’s not quite as good as brisket and ribs.” Zuckerberg then segued into hunting and fishing:
Although, you know, the thing that really makes it good–and I think half of the joy is that things taste better when you make them yourself. And they taste doubly better when you’ve hunted the animal yourself. So, whether you’re fishing for the salmon or going hunting for a boar, that’s a big part of it. You feel more connected to what you’re doing and what you’re eating, and then you cook it yourself and it’s this whole experience.
Soon after broaching the subject of hunting, a viewer asked Zuckerberg if he personally hunts. Zuckerburg responded, “Yeah, it’s good. It’s a good way to feel connected to nature. I feel like if you’re going to eat meat, then you should get to know where it comes from.”
Zuckerburg went on to say he started hunting “four or five years” ago and he enjoys it. But he stressed he does not get to do it often because he’s “pretty busy building Facebook.”
