The number of men inquiring about having “scrotox,” otherwise known as Botox for the scrotum, has reportedly doubled over the past year, according to experts and clinics in the UK and USA.
For around £2,800, the scrotox is alleged to help stop sweating and wrinkles and can even make the scotum appear larger through muscle relaxation.
“Over the past year, requests for scrotum Botox have doubled at Transform showing the huge demand and interest for this procedure,” said the director for British clinic Transform, Mark Norfolk, who is sceptical about the operation. “In terms of results, injecting Botox into the scrotum may help with any sweating issues, but won’t have much of an effect on wrinkles.”
Transform does not offer scrotox procedures, citing “the possible risks and complications associated with treating this part of the body.” However the clinic has received an increasing demand from men inquiring about the procedure over the past year.
“There is lots of loose skin on this part of the body, that an injectible treatment just can’t shift,” continued Norfolk.
“If anyone is interested in having this treatment, I can’t stress enough how important it is to do a thorough research – not only into the practitioner but also around the product they’ll be using,” he said. “Also, patients should manage their expectations in terms of results, it could prove very costly and nerve wracking to go through, for very little in return.”
Beverly Hills dermatologic surgeon Jason Emer, M.D. has also reported an increase in the amount of inquiries for penile cosmetic surgery, with scrotox in particular, comparing the operation to the rise in female genital cosmetic surgery over the past few years.
“I have many younger male patients who are interested in this,” said Dr. Emer for the Cosmetic Surgery Times in July. “As the vaginal rejuvenation market is skyrocketing, men are seeking their own type of rejuvenation. Who wouldn’t want to be a little bit longer, thicker, or have more sensitivity and a better sex life?”
“These men are also becoming interested in the cosmetic appearance of the actual penis and scrotum itself,” he continued. “I think it’s a trend that people will start hearing more about, as there is significant demand.”
