Report: TikTok Insiders Say Communist China Still Controls Direction of Company

A recent report states that despite supposed efforts to distance itself from its communist China, TikTok insiders claim that the final say for the platform often comes from parent company ByteDance in Beijing. One former staffer reportedly told Business Insider that: “It’s that feeling a little bit in the US where you’re sort of helpless to a lot of the decisions that are made out of China.”

The number of Americans who say they rely on social media platforms for news declined in 2021, with the decline driven mainly by Facebook users, although the platform still leads the pack for American online news consumption, according to a new survey from Pew Research.

Black TikTok choreographers have gone on strike, vowing not to create any new dances on the platform until they get credit for their work. They claim TikTok users of other races have been taking dance moves created by black users, and have apparently gained millions of followers and recognition as a result.
