The state ranks fifth in Mexico for murders due primarily to a fierce cartel turf war where rival factions fight for control of fentanyl smuggling routes into Arizona.

Whistleblower: Tesla Worker Trafficked ‘Significant Quantities’ of Cartel Drugs

A former Tesla employee has filed a formal whistleblower complaint with the SEC alleging that Tesla failed to disclose that authorities had discovered an alleged drug trafficking scheme involving an employee at the firm’s “Gigafactory” plant in Nevada. Among the other claims in the complaint, the whistleblower also describes the theft of more than $37 million worth of copper from Elon Musk’s Nevada facility.

42 Bodies Found in Mass Grave near Popular Mexican Tourist City

Authorities reported the discovery of a mass grave containing at least 42 bodies on the outskirts of a popular Mexican tourist port city near the Arizona border. The grisly discovery occurred just outside Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, also known as Rocky Point — located approximately 60 miles south of Arizona.

Mexican Army Reinforcements Arrive in Culiacán, Sinaloa

The government of Mexico deployed 230 Mexican Army Special Forces personnel who arrived in Culiacán, Sinaloa, on Friday night in response to cartel violence that broke out throughout the city on Thursday afternoon. The deployment of additional security elements resulted from a cartel rampage that exploded in Culiacán after the capture of the son of the notorious and imprisoned drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. The Mexican government released the drug lord’s son after security forces became overwhelmed by the cartel response.

More Trash Bags of Human Remains Found in Western Mexico

Authorities in the western Mexican state of Jalisco continue to discover dozens of trash bags filled with dismembered human remains. The discoveries point to an ongoing extermination tactic by cartel members fighting for control of the region. Officials found the remains in wells, shallow pits, and grassy areas as authorities continue to put the pieces back together and identify the victims.

Six Sinaloa Cartel Operatives Arrested in Mexican Tourist Hotspot

Mexican police arrested six Sinaloa Cartel operatives including a suspected “plaza boss” late last month in the tourist hotspot of Playa del Carmen. The arrest came during a combined military and police operation. The Secretary of Public Security waited until this week to announce the news of the arrests which took place on June 29.

10 Cops Killed in Popular Mexican Tourist Port Since October

Cartel gunmen shot and killed an off-duty municipal police officer from the popular tourist port of Guaymas, Sonora, on Tuesday morning. With this most recent attack, the number of police officers killed in the municipality of Guaymas reached ten since October of 2018.
