Texas Fugitive, Alleged Backpage Pimp Found in Dominican Republic

A man accused of sex trafficking a Texas teenage girl has been arrested in the Dominican Republic after fleeing the Lone Star State to avoid prosecution. The man allegedly fled after an investigation by the Texas Office of the Attorney General’ (OAG) human trafficking unit and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) led to an indictment against the man and a co-conspirator.

Backpage.com Closes Adult Ads After Probes into Alleged Sex Trafficking

Backpage.com has closed its adult advertising section after two state attorneys general and a U.S. Senate panel has focused a light on its ads. The classified ads website has long been criticized for facilitating the promotion of sex trafficking, sometimes allegedly involving minors. The CEO was arrested in October.

Backpage.com CEO Now in California to Face Pimping Charges

The CEO of Backpage.com agreed to immediate extradition to California after his arrest in Houston on money laundering and pimping charges. Carl Ferrer was taken into custody on Friday after he arrived at a Houston airport on a flight from Amsterdam. He is now in a California jail.

A Spanish-speaking Facebook group is being used to alert 29,753 members of law enforcement checkpoints. Posts on the page claims it is alerting those “who don’t have a driver license and [to] report accidents” but it could also be used to avoid law enforcement for any criminal activity, including human, drug, and sex trafficking.

Federal Judge Says Texas Can’t Outlaw Harboring Illegal Aliens

A federal district judge in San Antonio has issued an order stopping a Texas law criminalizing the harboring of illegal aliens, at least for now. The judge issued the preliminary injunction in MALDEF’s (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) lawsuit challenging Texas House Bill 11, a law which open border advocates are fighting because they say it improperly targets illegal alien shelters and those who rent to illegal aliens.
