“Whenever an innocent person is lost to violence, as a society we should consider what steps we can take to make our communities safer. Moving forward, we believe San Francisco and the Departments of Homeland Security and Justice should improve communication to ensure all interests are weighed in future cases,” the two California lawmakers wrote in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

“Sanctuary city policies needlessly endanger American lives by refusing to honor the federal government’s authority to enforce immigration laws,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte said Thursday. “Unfortunately, the Obama Administration’s own foolish policies enable rogue local governments to defy federal immigration laws,” he added. “All too often, these reckless policies create preventable tragedies.”

Obama Silent on Kate Steinle’s Death, But Spoke about Michael Brown within 3 Days

Under the liberal policies of sanctuary cities – those city officials do not have to turn over illegal immigrants to ICE, which was the case with Lopez-Sanchez because ICE officials had requested that San Francisco police let ICE know when Lopez-Sanchez were to be released so that ICE would be able to take him into federal custody, but San Francisco refused to notify the federal officials.

S.F. Sheriff Had Own Criminal Record Expunged at Time of Sanchez’s Release

When San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi released Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez from jail on April 15, he was likely focused on expunging criminal charges from his own record–charges that had been downgraded from “domestic violence” to “false imprisonment” after he had initially pleaded guilty in 2012 to false imprisonment over “a spat with his wife, Eliana Lopez, during which he bruised her arms.”

Rubio’s Gang of Eight Bill Would Have Rewarded Sanctuary Cities Harboring Illegals

In the wake of yet another murder of an American at the hands of a Mexican immigrant, it’s worth revisiting the immigration bill put forth in part by GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio, which offered rewards for sanctuary cities. Had the Gang of Eight measure become law, not only would it have allowed sanctuary cities to continue to refuse to cooperate with immigration authorities, it would have stopped ICE from pushing to strip federal funds from sanctuary cities that defied them by releasing aliens back onto the streets, thanks to an amendment added by California Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
