Comparing what’s happening in Afghanistan at the hands of an enfeebled, uncaring Joe Biden to the fall of Saigon in 1975 is ludicrous in several glaring ways.
House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) slammed President Joe Biden’s response to the Taliban terrorists talking over Afghanistan as “weak,” showing “he is unfit to serve as President of the United States.”
After NBC News chief legal correspondent and TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie questioned how the Biden administration had been “so wrong” in it’s Afghanistan assessment, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan attempted to minimize the extent of the chaotic scenes in Kabul.
It’s bad enough that Kabul in 2021 is an acid-trip of bad nostalgia to Saigon in 1975. It would be even worse if Kabul turns into a replay of Tehran in 1979, complete with hostages on videos, ransom demands, agonizing negotiations, and perhaps valiant but doomed rescue attempts.

Videos uploaded from Kabul on Sunday showed chaos at the international airport as panicked people rushed to board aircraft ahead of the Taliban’s advance.
As a hasty American withdrawal and rapid Taliban takeover continues in Afghanistan, many conservative pundits and politicians have slammed President Joe Biden for previous comments on July 8 which all but guaranteed the current scenario was impossible, having boasted of the Afghan army’s capabilities while declaring, “There’s going to be no circumstance where you are going to see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy of the United States from Afghanistan.”
Stefanik likened Biden’s failed Afghanistan policy to the desertion of South Vietnam, which delivered Saigon into the hands of communists.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed the deaths of over 400 British soldiers in Afghanistan was not “in vain” as the Taliban retook the country from the Western-backed regime in Kabul.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that while video shows military helicopters facilitating the rapid evacuation of U.S. personnel from the U.S. embassy in Kabul, it was “manifestly not Saigon.” Guest host Jon Karl said,
